Trains and Luggage in Belgium?
 

Hi. My wife and I will be taking trains from Amsterdam to Bruges and from Bruges to Brussels this summer. We will have a large suitcase with us. We would like to make stops (for a few hours each) in Antwerp and
Ghent. My question is will the train station lockers be big enough for us to leave our luggage while we explore these cities? Thanks! JWH

Belgian stations have lockers designed to accommodate luggage. I haven't measured them and I haven't measured your luggage, and I can't believe anyone else on this forum has, so how can anyone say whether your luggage will fit?

Geoffhamer. It is my experience that this a friendly forum designed to help fellow travelers. I feel that your reply was needlessly rude. Thank you for letting me know that their are lockers designed for luggage. I hope you are more kind in helping travelers that visit your country. How large is large?

Brussels Central Station luggage locker sizes are:
Small, 36&quot;x15&quot;x12'
Medium, 36&quot;x24&quot;x15&quot;
Jumbo, 36&quot;x36&quot;x20&quot;

If you've been reading this forum for long you should know that Fodor's folks pack light, and there are plenty of threads describing how to do it. Scroll through the knowledge base. I can't imagine why anyone would need more than a 20&quot; or 22&quot; roller bag. Luggage storage is not the main problem with a large bag. Among the real problems are getting your bag up and down stairs and getting it onto the train luggage rack. Too big and too heavy will cause you no end of frustration and sweat.

GeoffHamer's post wasn't rude. It was pretty much common sense - since you did not (and still haven't) told us the size of you bag how was anyone able to tell . . . . .

The dimensions hopscotch gave you are for the lockers in Brussels Centraal station. That doesn't necessarily mean Antwerp and Ghent stations have the same lockers.

I used the luggage locker in Antwerp station, and my recollection is that they're not that huge. I used a 20&quot; rollaboard and didn't have trouble storing that, but I can't say for sure it'll hold a <b>large</b> suitcase.

If there's 2 of your traveling with one large suitcase, you may be better off using 2 small suitcases.

Both in Gent and in Antwerpen there is a luggage area with staff. Much easier than trying to fit your luggage in a locker.

JanisJ. I think that in dealing with various cultures that have different degrees of what is and what is not polite it is best to err on the side of being too polite. I did not respond with sizes since the next post provided detailed useful information and I no longer needed the help. If a post leaves out needed information I think it would be polite to ask for more information but not to scold the poster for omissions. I hope I have not offended. I just wanted to make Geoffhamer aware that his post did seem a bit gruff.

It seems that you're awfully touchy for someone who is asking for help from others. You're the one who didn;t include the necessary info. GH was merely pointing that out.

If you are so delicate that you can;t take a straightforward answer witout 14 pleases, thank yous, yes sirs and no sirs in it - perhaps you should try to work at making your questions more complete.

Huh? Hopscotch didn't provide that useful information until <u>after</u> you had already gone off on GeoffHamer. This is one of the most civil forums anywhere - if you can't stomach even a teensy bit of dispute/comeuppance you are very delicate indeed.
