Train vs. rental car
We're spending 4 nights in Rome and then were planning to spend 3 nights in Venice, but now, we're thinking about renting a car and driving to Venice instead of taking the train. If we do this we will spend one night along the way to Venice. First question, is would you take the train vs. renting a car. Secondly, which city would you recommend we spend a night along the way?

I think I'd stick to your original plan. The obvious place to stop in between Rome and Venice is Florence. And you definitely don't want to drive from Rome to Florence to Venice. The train is much more efficient, and you can see plenty of countryside from the train.
Another trip you can rent a car and doodle around Italian villages. You just don't have enough time on this trip. |
Personally I can't imagine car over train in Italy. Train travel is so nice. I've been driver in Italy and all I get is hearing everyone saying "Oh ah look at that!" Train town hopping is wonderful.

Definitely, the train!

Another vote for taking the train. Peace, Robyn :)>-

Train would be my choice as well - no need to pick up and drop off the car
