Train trips from Vienna.

Can anyone give me any suggestions for good day trips, by train, leaving from Vienna? Would like to go south. We will be coming from Budapest.
.
Thanks, Linda

Bratislava is a one-hour train ride from the Sud (South) Station. It is a nide half-day to day trip. Prices are cheaper for crystal, dolls, etc. and you can add another country--Slovakia. Krems has some nice areas around it but I would rather drive because you go throught the wine country and you can stop and eat at one of the restaurants and taste the local wine.

Graz is quite beautiful city in Austria. Also Salzburg is fantastic!

Salzburg takes three hours by train, and Graz 2 hours 36 minutes. From Vienna Southb to Bratislava-Petrzalka takes an hour, and the bus to the main stop on the north side of the river takes ten minutes.

Sopron is a walled city in Hungary with many gothic buildings: it is 1 hour 22 minutes by direct train from Vienna South.

lGraz is a bit of stretch for a day trip but it is a truly neat place and not overrun with tourists. Wold Heritage site.
