>I'm little confused by visitingnow's comment about not bring a picnic to Versailles.

During the initial security cheques I was asked whether I had food in one of the bags I was entering the palace with. I did and told them so. I was then asked to put the bag into the "lost luggage" office and received a receipt for it so I could claim it back later.

I don't know if this is an actual policy of the chateaux or they were being difficult. After all they are French and I am an Englishman with long hair wanting to take food in so as to save money.

We had 10 days in Paris, and really enjoyed our day trip to Chenonceau. The air smelled great, the birds were singing. It was good to get out of the city for a bit.

In between the train station and Versailles there are several restaurants you will pass. Skip McDonald's of course, and dine at the Spanish restaurant for tapas or Chez Cesar's. Chez Cesar's had the best pizza I had in Paris.

Yes .. luckily after 8 hours on the tour of the chateaux I remembered and ran back with my ticket to get my bag.

>did you have a picnic once you had exited the Chateau?

No I ate my stuff in my hotel room which was 10 mins walk.

so... what's the problem...?

It was a very long time without food and water thus I had to by stuff there which was well over priced :(

Not really a problem but it would have been nice o have a bite to eat that didnt cost a fortune in the grounds.
