Train Travel - Venice to Vienna or Salzburg

I'm having difficulty on the Rail Europe sight finding train travel connecting Venice to either Vienna or Salzburg. The maps are rather frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding online info for said trains?

Also, if someone could point me towards a GREAT rail map for France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria, I'd be a very happy traveller! The Rail Europe doesn't do anything but one country at a time in detail. If I'm mistaken, please feel free to correct me!

Hi moldy,

Raileurope is not a good site.

The best place for train schedules in Europe is http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Don't know about a map.

It shows that no online ticketing is available. Any advice?

The Swiss site, www.sbb.ch is easy to use as well. Click on the little letters en for English captions.

Both the German and the Swiss sites will give you detailed schedules, with connections, and all timings if you drill down far enough.

The Rail Europe site is sketchy at best.
It carries no local or connecting schedules that I have ever seen.

The German and the Swiss sites are good for most of the western continent, e.g. they are good for much of Austria and France as well.

If you do much planning, you will find that you need different sites for different trips. I use the Swiss and German ones up to a point, but there are times when I need the specific nation al site, such as OBB or Austria and the SNCF for France.

Both trips are long in terms of time, and will eat up most of the prime time of the day.

Your best travel time to Salzburg is about 6 hours; about 7.5 hours to Vienna.

Wien and Venedig are the European names that might get you better results.
