train travel Rome to Orvieto

Our party of 4 adults will arrive at FCO and travel to Orvieto by train in December. How is the best way to get to the Termini?
Thanks!

Your options to get to Termini from FCO include by train - the Leonardo Express, or taxi, or private transfer.

For a group of 4 taxi will be simplest. Get a taxi from the official taxi queue outside the terminal.

Buy a thru ticket FCO Airport to Orvieto or Termini to Orvieto - regional trains no reserved seats possible - flat no reason to buy in advance. www.trenitalia.com for schedules - general info trains- www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.

You can also take a regional train from FCO to Rome Tiburtna station for a few euros and transfer in that less hectic station to an Orvieto train.

Are you going right to Orvieto from Termini?

Do you have your tickets?

You could do as J62 says and take a taxi from Fiumicino to Termini and buy your tickets from the red Trentalia ticket machines. There are English-speaking attendants to assist you.

Or....

You could take the Leonardo Express from Fiumicino to Termini, then transfer to the train to Orvieto. There is a kiosk selling tickets to Orvieto right in front of the trains at Termini. They do charge a fee, but it is negligible in the grand scheme of things and convenient. There may be a ticket machine near the trains but we didn't notice any.

My husband and I did the later in October, 2017. We spent one night in Orvieto at Hotel Duomo.

There is a part of the train ride to Orvieto that goes through a tunnel and you get a tremendous pressure on your eardrums. It is really bothersome. I don't know if earplugs would help.

Don't forget Cimiez high above Rome with great views, Roman ruins and a famous art museum:

Yes, straight from FCO to Termini to Orvieto. Opinions seem to be that it is not necessary to purchase tickets in advance.

There are reasons not to buy regional tickets in advance as they apparently they have a short 4-hour validity period or such and with airplane's being late... if going all way by train just buy a FCO-Orvieto ticket at airport train station - with the FCO-Rome Tiburtina station route for a dirt-cheap price.
