train travel Paris to Nice

mu husband and I will be taking a train from Paris to Nice in April Look's like the TGV and TER are best times. What is the difference between 1st class travel and 2nd class? The price is almost half!

karen, Have you considered taking the night train? The sleeper cars are comfortable and it lets you have one extra day of sightseeing instead of using daytime hours on a train.

Thee's three seats in a row in 1st class, 4 in second class. You have a little more room and marginally more confortable seats in 1st class. It's not worth the price difference, IMO (assuming you're not riding a night train).

I only seated in 1st class twice, each time because I hoped on a full train without reservation for a long ride. I paid on the train for an upgrading in order to have a seat.

Fodors

I agree with Sarah. But if you're on a TGV then second class has four seats in a row, two one side of the central corridor and two the other, while first class has just three, two one side and one the other.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to Europe.

Ben Haines, London

Karen, my husband and I took the night train from Paris to Nice and absolutely loved it. It was just priceless to wake up early in the AM, peek out of the window and see the lovely French countryside! The train leaves Paris late and arrives at around 8am in Nice. Let your Nice hotel know you will be in early and chances are you can leave your bags with them while you go and explore Nice!
