Train travel in Poland

I am pre-planning a trip in Poland. (I like to have all my ducks lined up well before my trip.) I will want to travel by train from Gdansk to Warsaw to Krakow. I can't seem to find much information about how to buy tickets or where to buy them.

I assume that I will buy my tickets at the train stations. Is that assumption correct?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The man in seat 61 covers Poland:

Yes, at the train station, either at the ticket office, or at a ticket machine.

Some machines sell only Intercity tickets (IC), others sell for local and other train lines as well. Look for the IC symbol.

The machines are multilingual and the English translation is very clear.

If you need help look for a young persons wearing orange vests with the IC logo.

Elberko: I had checked the Man in Seat 61 but somehow missed the important information.

Thanks for the help. I'm good to go...whenever I get the money and the time, of course.

Thanks for your info too, cdnyul. That will make the trip easier.

When I going ?

Are you flying to Gdansk?

I'm still undecided about when to go--this September, next May, or next September.

I just went to Spain for 5 weeks in April/May, and I shouldn't really do a second trip this year, financially. Also, I need to lose some weight so that I'll be able to walk longer. I have only 6 weeks in which to lose weight before September, and the weight loss is going quite slowly.

However, I'm already older than God, and I'll be a year older next year--82. Who knows if I'll be in good health or even alive next year.

Yes, I'll fly from Frankfurt to Gdansk. I haven't decided how I'll get from Krakow back to Frankfurt. Probably fly with Lufthansa.

After thinking it over, it will be next May.

www.intercity.pl is the site you want: Online tickets for Polish Railways, print-at-home delivery, no added fees, direct from the operator.

Thanks very much, Mr.Man. (Little joke there.)

You can buy tickets at the station before departure but they are usually cheaper bought in advance. The place to buy online is https://www.intercity.pl/en/
Tickets are available 30 dayes before date of travel. PKP Intercity is the company that operates most long-distance trans in Poland. You will probably not use any other trains but to see timetables from all operators you can check
http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en
This website will also redirect you to the train operators booking sites.
