train travel in italy on italo
 

Looking for last leg of trip from Florence to Rome and a friend suggested .italo I am using trentalia for other trips, but this looks interesting and is a lot cheaper for the date of travel. Thanks.

Thanks for info. Does anyone know if Roma Tib. station is far away from Roma Ost.? I was told to go to Ost., but the tix from Florence on Italo are better times to Roma Tib. Only 20 euro!!

Tibutina is on the metro, but not close to Ostiense. You might have to enlarge this map a few times.

Tiburtina (used by Italo) is a €10 taxi ride from central Rome, whereas Rome Termini is central, walking distance from the sights and many/most central hotels. That's the only big issue with using Italo to or from Rome.

Italo's AGV trains are excellent, and almost brand new. In Milan, Florence, Bologna, Naples, Italo uses the city centre stations.

At least until the end of the year, a nice gesture for Italo Treno passengers from the Naples public transport people - which those in Rome and elsewhere might well adopt...

At about €1.50 for a "single" ticket, it costs little - but saves all the hassle of finding a place to buy one?

Since you will be arriving at Tiburtina, there might not be a need to go to Termini at all. Tiburtina is a major bus hub for the city of Rome. It's also on the metro stop. You can check ATAC for best public transport route from Tiburtina to your destination in Rome.

From Tiburtina, it's Metro B down to Piramide, and a very short walk to Ostiense station - for the Roma Lido train?

Also note that ITALO Treno does NOT utilize Milano Centrale station, but instead Milano Porta Garibaldi and Milano Rogoredo.

hi can anyone suggest how can i get from Milano mxp airport to milano PG so i can take the italo train to rome? I was going to take trenitalia but Italo has a better schedule , thanks

I would be very surprised that Italo has a better schedule as Trenitalia has a lot more departures (2-3 per hour) with their fastest departures on the hour (travel time 2:55). Italo only has 3 departures that fast and a total 14 departures per day. You can train from the airport or take the Malpensa shuttle. It will take about an hour to get from the airport to the station in Milan.

There are now direct trains at xx22 and xx43 from Malpensa airport to Porta Garibaldi taking between 33 and 43 minutes. Characteristically, the official Malpensa website hasn't caught up with this: you need to go to the Trenitalia site

This is a great deal faster than the much-touted bus from Malpensa. Incidentally, for many destinations within the Milan conurbation, Porta Garibaldi offers better public transport links than Centrale or Cadorna stations.
