this is the official website for Austrian train times and fares...it seems they do not have an english version site...it is only in German. the ride is about 3 hours and cost about 40+ Euros, and there are many trains a day. |
And btw there is absolutley no need to buy the tickets from Vienna to Salzburg earlier than the day you travel.

There is a screen at the top to check for English of the oebb.at site.

It is easy to get from Vienna to Salzburg. The trains leave regularly and are very efficient. Just show up at the station and buy the tickets just before you leave
|
If you are planning an early morning train, then it's not a bad idea to get tickets the day before if you're in the area. I hate rushing to the train station for a morning train only to find a line. I'd rather spend a little more time over breakfast or have a coffee at a cafe.
FWIW, if you have time to kill over at the Westbahnhof area, the West End cafe across the street from the station makes an excellent cappuccino. |
Hi BL,
Do they have to go back to London? If they are returning to the States, Munich would be much more convenient. ((I)) |
the Austrian rail website at ÖBB.AT has an English version.
There is no need to buy in advance because trains are frequent all day long. Look at the top of the screen, slightly right of center, there is a dropdown box that says Sprache/Language. Your choices are English and German. Click on the dropdown box and you will see the word Englisch, which is the German spelling of English. (Obvious I think.) Counting trains between 9:10 and 12:10 inclusive there are 7 departures in that 3 hour time window. The price is €43.40 for an undiscounted ticket in 2nd class. The shortest travel time is about 2 hours, 40 minutes for the 7:00 and 11:00 departures. Other departures take over 3 hours because they make more stops. |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 02:02 AM. |
