Train travel from Switzerland to Italy
This summer we are taking a train holiday from Munich to Milan. We will make a stop at Zermatt via Brigg. From Brigg, we want to experience one of the border lakes before going to Milan. Any suggestions on which lake / town and also how to navigate the route via train. There does not seem to be one cohesive website that guides us from Switzerland to Italy on trains. Thanks

Sorry, meant Brig, Switzerland.

Look at Stresa. Right on the main train line heading toward Milan.

Lugano is on the border of Switzerland and Italy and it is a beautiful town. The organization of Swiss and passion of Italy.

A few years ago we trained from Zermatt via Brig to Locarno. We spent a few nights there and really enjoyed the town and lake views. We then trained to Milan via Lugano. It was all very easy.

I agree---Stresa and lago Maggiore.

Hello,
Not only do the Swiss enjoy a stellar reputation for great chocolate, but their railway system is second to none as well. Just consider the recent upgrades to the SBB CFF FFS (the acronyms for the Swiss Federal Railways), resulting in shorter travel times, increased frequency (major departures run on the hour and the half-hour), and new and modernized trains. |
YOu are correct - no one website is helpful. Lago Maggiore is what you are looking for and
Stresa would be my first pick, Locarno/Ascona second. You may wish to search under the Swiss canton of Ticino for ideas. |
