Train travel b/t cities

I will be in Spain in a week and am confused about purchasing advance train tickets. (I've looked through the posts here but can't seem to find my itinerary, probably because it's not the ideal one but necessary for me.) I will be flying into Granada and want to immediately get on a train to Seville - I know those trains are local and not the high-speed ones, but do I even have the option of pre-purchasing? It doesn't appear so on Renfe.

Thanks very much!

I assume you have already looked at the Renfe schedule and realize there are only three or four direct (no change) trains per day. Notice that they are also 2nd Class and the trip takes about three hours. (You can also do it by bus but I'm not sure that is any faster).

Bottom line: for this route I seriously doubt you need to bother with purchasing ahead of time or worrying about any sort of seat reservations...just isn't the "high volume" route that might justify it.

Have a great trip.

I've just tried on the RENFE web site and it does seem to be possible to book for those trains. The fare is 19.10 euros. I doubt very much whether you need to buy in advance unless you're travelling around a weekend or holiday.

Thank you very much...I think I'm going to go ahead and get the tickets ahead of time for at least the granada - sevilla, only because we'll be arriving straight from the flight from U.S. But I can't seem to figure out what N.I.F stands for (it's in the client data field for online booking.) It seems to be necessary in order to purchase. Thanks again!

N.I.F. means "número de identidad fiscal" it's basically an identity number that Spaniards have. Try using your passport number since you obviously don't have a Spanish id number.

I'm reluctant to buy tickets in advance because you never know with certainty that your flight will arrive on time, and that you will find your way to the station on time.

I believe tickets can be used on the next train, but I think your reservation is gone if you miss your train.

Besides, buying the tickets is a good opportunity to ask directions to the right platform or the rest rooms.
