Train Travel

What has your experience been with train travel in Bulgaria ?

Hi,

Sorry to see that you never got any answers.

I will be travelling to Bulgaria in April, 2008. Everyone suggests using the buses rather than the trains.

Would you like to post something about your own experiences? It would really be most appreciated!

Many thanks!
Una

If you repost with a question like what's your experience with train travel in Bulgaria you might get responses. "Train travel" is a very general topic, not really geared to what you want

Thanks for the suggestion. I was interested in one person's personal experience...

I have been doing a lot of research, and as mentioned above almost everyone recommends buses.

Train travel in Bulgaria is just fine. The reason many people choose buses is that they are more flexible - i.e. they cover more destinations and are more frequent.
If you want to travel from Sofia to Varna or Burgas, taking the overnight train is a good approach...

So all in all you may be better off with a bus service for most of your trip. I have information on my travels in Bulgaria at http://travel.chinafinds.com

Hi
I'm currently living in Bulgaria. The train travel is very nice here in Bulgaria. You can really get to most any big town by train in Bulgaria. There is a train line that runs from Sofia through the north to Varna. You can go to Veliko Turnovo on this line which is a popular town. Another line goes south to Bourgas. Also another big line that goes through the middle of the country to Bourgas.
If your going from Sofia and the train doesn't go there it would probably be easier to take a bus. Busses from sofia tend to be more expensive, but definatly faster.
Trains are more comfortable, but cheaper.
