train travel
Need advice on these...
1. arriving in Naples on cruise ship, would like to travel by train to Pompeii and maybe Sorrento if time allows. 2. arriving Cannes on same cruise, would like to travel by train to Eze, with stops in between. Are train stations walkable from the ports? Do they run often? Thanks in advance. |
I think you need to find out if there is even service to the places you want to visit.
Stations are certainly reachable and the question is with your limited amount of time are you willing to pay to reach them in a reasonable time? |
Train to Pompeii and Sorrento, yes. Look for timetable for Circumvesuviana.
Train to Eze, not if you mean Eze-Village, that requires a bus from Nice, or a trek up from Eze-sur-Mer. |
And you won't want to walk UP from Eze-sur-Mer (but down is pleasant if steep). Bus timetables for the region are available online (search internet for buses in Cote d'Azur) but you might have to go via Nice (train or bus to Nice).
To work out how far stations are from the port, google is your friend. |
Naples Centrale to Pompeii every 30 minutes on the Circumvesuviana Railways, journey 35-40 minutes, fare around €3, buy at the station, easy.
The main entrance to the ruins is just across the road from Pompeii Scavi-Ville Dei Misteri station. Trains continue to Sorrento, 55 minutes from Naples. |
Hey jc,
Heed Man-in-seat: You wantPompeii-Scavi. Do not go to Pompeii. The Circumvesuviana leaves from the basement of Centrale. Have you considered staying in Naples and visiting the Archaeological museum where all of the good stuff from Pompei is? Especially if you are going in the Summer. Enjoy your day. ((I)) |
Or go to Herculaneum. It is smaller and has shade. and more stuff that didn't get removed to the museum.
