Train to Sorrento from Naples Airport
We are going to Sorrento, coming in via Naples Airport. I know there is a bus, but it only runs every 2 hours.
Does anyone know if it is possible to take a train to Sorrento with out going through Naples. IE take a taxi from the airport to a train station stop after the Naples stop.
I'm looking at the web and it looks like Barra is a stop. Does anyone know if that is a good idea.

Inor - Whatever for? There's a cheap bus service direct to Naples station ...
If you go to Barra by taxi you will
- waste € 30++
- probably not get a seat on the train.
Not a great idea IMO

I think you might be mistaken about the bus running only every two hours to the train station from the airport.
You may still have to get a bus ticket inside the airport from the tabac and not on the bus.
The bus takes you to within a block of the station...unless the route has changed.
Very inexpensive and easy.

If you are looking to avoid seediness at the train station, don't bother going to another nearby station, they are all the same in that area, maybe worse because they are more isolated, stick with the Naples station.

From memory, the bus from the station is the 3a and runs to Piazza Garibaldi every 20 minutes at least. I presume you mean a bus direct to Sorrento ?
I have caught this local bus, and walked across to the station fairly frequently, and have never had a problem. There are two possible stops - The main Circumvesuviana station on Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, or the lower level of the main Naples Railway staion. The train stops at both. I prefer the former, but only because the coffee bar in the circumvesuviana termini was great, and the owner always immensely helpful.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I guess what I meant was, I am trying to avoid going through downtown Naples to get to Sorrento.
From what I read the taxi rides are scary and the train station is crowded and also a little scary.
The bus to Sorrento does seem like the way to go, it just runs so infrequently. Every hour would be ok, but every two hours, seems like a long time to wait if there is an alternative.

Hire a driver to pick you up at the airport and take you to Sorrento. There are a lot of good drivers who have been recommended here. I can search here for their names if you would like,or you can

If you decide to take the train from Naples to Sorrento, avoid the "helpful" non authorized blue jacketed men at the train station. How do you day ripoff in Italian.
I thought you were saying the the bus from the airport to the Naples station only departed every two hours, sorry.
