Train to Lund

Hi,

My daughter will be arriving at Kastrup Airport mid-July and then needs to get to Lund, Sweden, where she'll be attending the University for two years.

I'm thinking traveling by train would be the most convenient and least expensive way.

If so, would the train take her directly to Lund (via Malmo) or would she need to change trains at the main station in downtown Copenhagen first?

Please advise,
Thanks, Benita

Benita:

No need to detour via Copenhagen main station. Öresund trains run a commuter type train service fom Helsingør to Lund stopping at Copenhagen airport.

During the day there are direct trains from CPH to Lund every 20 minutes, leaving CPH at 16, 36 and 56 minutes past the hour. Journey time is 44 minutes.

The rail station at CPH is reached from the check-in area by escalators with ticket offices and dispensing machines at the top of the escalators.

At Malmö Central station, due to its railhead layout, the train reverses its direction of travel. There is no need to get alarmed, as this ist perfectly normal (until the new station will be opened in 2011).

Hope this helps.

Phil.

Hi Phil,

This is exactly what I needed to know -thanks so much!

In other words, she stays on the same train all the way to Lund, no need to change in Malmo, the train just reverses its direction, is that right?

Also, do you have any idea of what a one-way ticket costs and could she pay by credit card or does she need cash (Danish kroner?)

Thanks again,
Benita

Benita,

Yes, that's what I meant: stay on the same train. Once on the train, it won't harm to ask the conductor whether it goes all the way to Lund or whether it will exceptionally end at Malmö due to technical reasons.

I have no idea, what a one-way ticket from CPH to Lund costs, and the fares are not easily found on either the Danish or the Swedish railway site. In May, a one-way ticket from Malmö to CPH cost SEK 102, about $17. I suppose that the CPH-Lund ticket will be about $35.

Credit cards are accepted at the ticket office and in the ticket machines, which have an English mode.

Hope this helps

Phil.
