Train to Florence from Tuscany
 

We are spending a week in a house ouside of San G. We will have a car and want to spend one day in Florence. I have driven to and from Florence airport, but think that it would be much easier to tran directly to cetral Florence. What is a good town in Tuscany to drive to, park our car and train to Florence?

The closest train station to San Gimignano is Poggibonsi. According to www.trenitalia.com, it has parking.

It's a little more than an hour to Florence; choose a train that goes to Firenze SMN (Santa Maria Novella; in blue on the schedule).

You can also take the train from Siena or the bus from San G to Poggibonsi to Florence.

We are also staying outside San G and would like to take train to Florence. I looked at the schedule on the website Eloise gave. Should we book ahead or is this something we can just purchase before boarding? We would rather keep the return time open.
