Train to Edinburgh from London

What is the easiest way to get from London, England to Edinburgh, Scotland by train?

There is a Britrail train from King's Cross Station in London to Edinburgh.
My memory fails me about how many trains a day, etc., but I thought you'd like a relatively quick response. If I can recall, it took about 5 hours -- an easy ride. I've also driven that route over a few days, and either works depending on you rtravel interests.

Daytime trains - GNER from King's Cross up the East Coast Main Line via York & Newcastle. gner.com

On the hour, 7am - 2pm, plus 10:30, 1:30pm; from 3pm on, every :00 and :30 till 7pm. Most takes 4:32; fastest takes 4:08.

Overnight trains - The Caledonian Sleeper run by Scotrail from Euston on the West Coast Main Line via Carlisle. 11:45pm - 7:17am usually & no Saturday night service. You can board at 10:45pm and must get off by 8am. www.firstscotrail.com

rkkwan has given you the schedules. Really don't know what madameX means by a "Britrail train". There is no such thing. Britrail is not a train company and doesn't have trains to anywhere. It is simply an agency that sells train tickets to foreigners. the trains will be either GNER or Scotrail.

I have taken the train from Paddington to Edinburgh on two different ocassions and would recommend this to anyone. It's approx 4 1/2 hrs. Trains are wonderful, comfortable, the scenery around the North Sea is great. Each time I bought a Britrail travel pass before I left the States and found this the best way to go, price wise and convenience.

I really do not think that trains to Edinburgh depart from Paddington. Rather from Kings Cross station.

I agree with Roger - I've taken trains between London & Edinburgh a bunch of times and they always use Kings Cross Station in London, not Paddington Station, except of course for the sleeper train which uses Euston.

We took the train from London to Edinburgh last May. On the way back, we stopped in York overnight. The train was great and we enjoyed both Edinburgh and York. After York we just hopped on the train again and went on to London.

Yes -- my mistake abot the rail name. I book through Britrail, and made an incorrect assumption. ..But as the others have said, I enjoyed this ride for its scenery, easy of travel, etc. I'd do it again if traveling to Edinburgh, and didn't want to putz throught the countryside in between.
