Train tickets from London to York
 

Where do you all recommend buying train tickets from London to York (1 night stay over)? Also, do you buy a seat (1st or 2nd class) and a reservation also - two separater charges? I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

If this is the only train ticket you are buying, you can get it right at the train station at Kings Cross which I believe is the station to York. I always get a Britrail pass when I go to the UK, but it's always 2nd class. The cost of rail tickets in England can be very high, so I don't know if you want to pay the extra cost to go first class or not. Someone from the UK might be able to help with websites for the train services over there. Good luck.

If they are needed or desired, then it is an additional fee above and beyond the regular fare. <BR><BR>If you're able to buy tickets way in advance, you'll save a lot, sometimes 75%. You can use the above web site to see if any of the advance discount fares are still available for the date(s) you need.

Book ahead, www.thetrainline.com or www.qjump.com <BR>If you are coming back to London, get a return ticket. First class is a waste of time and money, unless you are use to the high life. Second class is fine.The trains are fast, modern and sleek. It will take about 1 hour 50 mins or so. To get the cheapest price, don't travel on Fridays or public holidays and try to avoid rush hours. <BR>If you just want to go to York and then go on somewhere else, you will need to buy a 'single' (one-way) ticket. These are sometimes even more expensive than returns (round trip) so you could even pretend you are coming back at a fictitious (and non-rush hour) time to get a cheap ticket. Reservations are included in the price if you book ahead. (I think they are free too if you buy an on the day fare, but I would not suggest doing that as you will pay dear.)
