Train Tickets
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help with links or suggestions on where to purchase train tickets. Looking to travel on an overnight train w/ a 2 person sleeping compartment between Paris and Milan in May. I see in other posts that Rail Europe charges a large fee so i was hoping someone can reccomend a site where the tickets are cheaper... Thanks |
See www.tgv-europe.com
Enter the UK as your country of origin - if you enter the US you'll be sent back to Rail Europe. |
www.seat61.com/france GREAT folks to help you.
Have done your journey sleepers are not great or too safe you miss a lot safety issues EXPENSIVE. If in a hurry for me easyjet.com CDG MXP from 35 euro. Or even better hop DAY trains for a sveral day journey thrugh the alps see nice places like Interlaken Hotel Victoria Jungfrau and Stresa in Italy for Isola Bella I like the Regina Palace there. Have been going for 40 years am not a fan of sleepers for reasons comfort expense&safety mostly. insuremytrip.com wise eurocheapo.com good budget city tips. Good luck! |
SNCF (French National Rail) no longer is a partner with Trenitalia (Italian National Rail) on direct night train service between France and Italy. This means that you cannot book the Paris-Milan night train at tgv-europe.com any more.
The new partnership is between Thello and Trenitalia. If you know French, you can book on the Thello site. Or you can book on the English version of the Trenitalia site. The standard fare for a bed in a 2-person sleeper (Trenitalia calls it a double seat compartment) is €144/person. Booked up to 90 days in advance, you can get a Go fare of €115/person. |
I just checked the Thello site and found that, unlike the Trenitalia site's 90-day advance booking limit, Thello allows booking 120 days in advance. The site doesn't give a name to its discount fare. It simply shows you the best price available for a "cabine 2 lits."

Please ignore qv's fear-mongering and web-sites and read this: http://www.seat61.com/thello-train-f...s-to-italy.htm

Thanks everyone. Lots of helpful links.... I'll let you know what we decide. Thanks again.
