Train ticket question, Berlin - Dresden - Prague

I would like to know if I buy a regular price ticket for Berlin to Prague if I can stop in Dresden overnight and continue my journey to Prague the following day on the same ticket?

Yes, you can. You can even buy a discounted ticket and stay overnight in Dresden.

Enter VIA: Dresden Hbf STOPOVER: 24:00 h (or whatever amount of time you need up to 48 hours). I just checked for next week and Deutsche Bahn came up with a 39 Euro fare.

Thank you Ingo, I am a little confused I thought a Europa Spezial ticket was only valid on the train that it was booked for. What type of discount ticket are you refering to?

I was going to travel Berlin - Dresden - Prague the day I fly into Berlin (TXL), I am not sure exactly what time I'll depart Berlin hbf since I am not certain my flight will be on time.

Another dumb question, if I enter Dresden HBF stopover, 24:00 h, does that mean I have to spend 24 hours in Dresden or just an overnight? Ie, it my train arrives in Dresden at 6 pm on Monday do I need to leave Dresden at 6 pm on Tuesday or anytime on Tuesday.

Sorry to ask such dumb questions, most of my rail travel in Europe has been on rail passes which don't work too well for my upcoming trip.

I *am* referring to the Europa Spezial ticket. It is indeed only valid for the trains that you book. So, if you're not sure which train you can catch after landing in Berlin then this is not an option for you.

Of course you have to stay in Dresden until the train that you booked (for the next day) leaves. You can enter any stopover time you wish.

Thank you, Ingo.

Ingo is right.

Even with a 29/39/49 euro 'spezial' ticket, you can book a stopover for up to 24 hours if you put 'Dresden' in the 'stopover' box and enter up to 24:00 in the time box.
