Train Ticket Prices Question

Hi - I am looking for the prices of the following connections:

- Basel Sbb to Luzern
- Luzern Zuerich hb (Zurich)
- Zuerich hb (Zurich to Basel Sbb

I have gotten the Schedule from www.RailEurope.com. But for Prices I usually go to Trenitalia.com to get the Local price, rather than the inflated price for people in the US. But for some reason I couldn't get more info from Trenitalia - so perhaps someone that remembers from past travels/or lives there can help me with these prices. Thanks!

Hi hawaiihoneymoon,

You can only get prices from that country's train system. So for prices on Swiss trains, go to the Swiss rail website, www.rail.ch.

On the Swiss railway site, when you got the timetable you want, click on "booking" to get the price. It used to show "price inquiry" so you did not miss but recently they changed the form. Click on "booking" and it will give you a list of all the prices (full fare/half fare, oneway/return, 1st/2nd cls, etc).

Ok so I went to that website and was only able to get a price for Basel to Luzern at 18 swiss francs a person. So is this a web-only price - or is this the same as if I bought it from a ticket counter in Basel while I am there.

And secondly - there is no connection from Luzern to Zurich or Zurich to Basel. How can this be? They show connections on raileurope but not on the swiss site????

Go to sbb.ch
On the opening page, near the top in small letters, are the language choices. Click on "en." Good luck

Hi Again,

There are **numerous** trains from Luzern to Zurich and Zurich to Basel, several every hour in fact, and they're all right there at www.rail.ch. Just enter "Luzern" as your departure and then "Zurich as your destination, etc.

The price displayed is the price you pay at the window.
