Train ticket Prague-Vienna-Budapest

We are taking the train from Prague to Vienna, staying 6 days and then taking the train to Budapest. Is there a ticket we can purchase from Prague station to Budapest allowing us the 6 day stopover in Vienna? Or, is it the same price to purchase 2 separate tickets day of travel?
Thanks for your help.

It appears there is no direct train from Prague to Budapest that stops in Vienna - you can check for yourself using

http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml

so I doubt there is such a ticket that allows a stop-over. (That is, you'll be taking two different trains, one to get to Vienna, a separate train on a different carrier to get to Budapest.)

I know what you are asking - I did it (for a few hours though) in Slovenia last year to stop somewhere, but I was using the same national carrier, and it was only for a few hours.

I think, that you can try to find a connection with eurail or railpass (http://www.eurail.com/), but to be honest, with prague, vienna and budapest it should be cheaper having few separate tickets... btw - have you already found a place to stay? if you look for a cheap&cosy flat I think I could help

Just book Prague to Vienna from €19 at www.cd.cz/eshop

Then book Vienna-Budapest from €19 at www.oebb.at

Print at home tickets in both cases.

Well not the classic Eurailpass but perhaps the European East Railpass, a Eurail product that covers travel in Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland - but with just two trips it should be better to buy point to point tickets - two of them - the discounts Man in seat 61 talks about may or may not be always available and walk-up fares will certainly be much much more expensive - if wishing flexibility then perhaps the pass would even be cheaper for just two trips as it allows you to hop on any train anytime - full flexibility and those full fare tickets can be really expensive - so book as early as possible to get those very limited in number sold tickets.

For lots of great info on Eastern European trains I always spotlight these IMO fantastic sites - www.seat61.com (Man in seat 61 who posted above - his commercial site - to find out about railpasses click on his site's commercial link to RailEurope and if a pass is in the works buy it thru his site and give him some much much deserved commission! - other great sites - www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

There is also an overnight train between Prague and Budapest - save on a cost of a hotel and travel time by reorganizing your cities perhaps.
