Train ticket estimated prices
Can anyone roughly guess how much a ticket from Brno, Czech Republic to Vienna, Austria and then Vienna to Venice would cost. I can't seem to find any estimates online. Thanks.

Go to railpass.com. You'll find ticket prices for all your European destinations.
Happy travels. |
You can get a ticket from Vienna to Venice -- an 8 hour trip -- for 29 euros. It is non-refundable and non-changeable, though. It is advertised on trenitalia's website but we also got the same deal last year by buying in advance at the Vienna train station. Try also the OEBB website for Austrian train deals, listed under "Angebot" on the website (I am not sure this part of the website is available in English).

Do not plan on getting a 29 euro ticket. These are very limited and only apply to certain trains.
Much like airlines offering a special cheap ticket that very few ever seem to have luck purchasing. |
I guess I've been lucky -- twice and effortlessly. Most recently: 2 weeks ago.....

Molker is correct that they are only available for certain trains, direct EuroCity (EC), of which there appear to be two per day. There are a limited number of tickets at this price and they do sell out. However, I was able to find a lot of tickets available, but not every day. They probably require a 3 day advance purchase. Similar fares are available from German Rail from Munich to Venice, Verona, Milan, Florence, and Rome (also Vienna and Budapest).

As for the €29 Vienna to Munich fare, it looks like you can order it online with self-print, but there is no advantage except if you won't have 3 days in Austria to pre-purchase or if you are afraid it will sell out. If you buy it through Trenitalia, you can only pick it up at a station in Italy - a little inconvenient if that is where you are going.
As for the Brno to Vienna fare, I piece together a fare of about |
As for the Brno to Vienna fare, I pieced together a fare of about €25 ($30) from Czech and Austrian Rail. I think the fare would be less if you bought it in Czech Rep. Railpass has it for $29, which would be a better price to buy it from here, except they want $14 shipping. However, I would not trust Railpass for price estimates. Their prices are what THEY charge, not necessarily what is charged over there.

The Brno to Vienna estimate of 25 euro or so sounds about right to me from my experience with fares on the Czech trains, one which came from Vienna. Their train fares are really low in CR.
