Train Symbols

I can't figure out what all the symbols next to the train schedules mean. Like what do "IC", "IR", "E" mean. Is there an internet site that explains these? The site www.trenitala.com sure doesn't tell you.

Thanks

The symbols are designed to "grade" the trains in order of speed and comfort.
Here are some examples, some of which are country specific. They are listed in approximate order of quality.
ES Eurostar (Channel Tunnel)
ES Eurostar Italy - top grade
EC Eurocity Express - high quality
TGV Very Fast Trains - France
AVE Very Fast Trains - Spain
ICE Inter City Express - Fast-Germany
Thalys - Very Fast Train France/Belgium/Germany
IC Inter City - Fast, comfortable within most Euro countries.
IR Inter Regional - semi fast
D Inter Regional/Local - slow.

Most trains of IC and above carry a catering service, ranging from a trolley through the trains up to lst.Class Dining Cars, mostly the latter.
Some IR trains carry catering trollies.
If travelling some distance the EC and IC trains are recommended. On categories above this reservations are sometimes compulsory, and some have surcharges.
Hope this helps.

Bringing your message back up to the top for you, Stan (also known as "topping").

The customary "etiquette" here, Stan, is to "scroll down" (get the next 50 messages) until you find your post - - from the day before or whenever - - not simply ask it again the next day.

Best wishes,

Rex
