Train strikes/delay/schedule problems Italy
I just received an email from the Pompeii guide we're going to use next week. She said she's been waiting to contact me to finalize plans, while she waits to see what happens with train strikes and delays, and what those will do to the schedule. Has anyone else heard about this or have any more info?

Well, if you can read Italian or know a map of Italy, that link only talks about work stoppages in places nowhere near Pompei.

There is a poster on Slow Travel who makes a project of following news about transportation delays in Italy, including train strikes. Most other people don't because more than 70 percent of the train strikes that are announced never happen, and 90 percent of the time they involved non-essential personnel.
But one thing to note in your case is that the train line most commonly used to get to Pompei is not a state-run train, but a local commuter train and finding out information about that isn't easy. Your guide would be in the best position to know that.

Didn't focus on the Pompei bit, but doesn't "Durante lo sciopero il programma di circolazione dei treni potrà subire modifiche" mean that during the strike train traffic may undergo modifications?

I can't read Italian, and I know that a lot of the calls for strikes are bluffs, but did have the experience in Madrid of a taxi strike (to protest the murder of a taxi driver) called for the exact two hour segment of time when we were trying to get from our hotel to the airport. It was my first trip to Spain, and it was a struggle finding our way by metro to the airport.
Hopefully, the guide will keep us informed and, perhaps, have a Plan B up her sleeve!

WHOA, ellenem! the summerinitaly info was boggling. Thank you for the link.
Thank goodness we have a private driver picking us up in Naples on 10/3! Otherwise, we would have really been stuck.
Our flights are on Alitalia, but it looks like their planned strike is after we return home.
This oughta be an exciting trip, in more ways than one.
