Train strike and getting to Versailles Tuesday morning

I can't believe the train strike is still ongoing. I have to get to Versailles in the morning. I plan to take the RER C from St. Michel-Notre Dame. The SNCF site states that 1 train out of 2 will be in service. I figure if I get to the RER station by 9:15, that will allow me several trains to try to catch and that should get us there in time for a guided tour appointment at 11:30. Any other ideas? I am not too excited about paying a taxi to get us there. Merci Beaucoup!

Make that 8:15 maybe?

If the RER C isn't operating on that route, you can get there by bus from the Pont de Sèvres Métro station. Directions here:

The ride is very brief - so it really doesn't matter how crowded the train is - as long as there is one - you can just stand.

Is the SNCF site referencing SNCF trains or RER as well?

If you do go by RER take the first train that comes along, even if it is going to Versailles Chantiers. You can take a cab from there to the chateau.

Thanks all--I decided to splurge on the same good car service I used from the airport, myprivateparisdriver.com. I really didn't need the stress of worrying about missing my tour, and, although I may end up doing it on the way back, the bus idea requires 3 to 4 metro changes from my location. So probably at least a 90 minute operation.

Thanks all. I have two more trips to worry about--Giverny, and my train tickets to Venice on Monday, so I may be back!

Thanks again!
Laura

Thanks all. I realized I put in the wrong website for the driver--I used http://www.myparisprivatedriver.com/
to avoid any delay. I arrived in good time at Versailles. I asked others about their experiences, and it really seemed to depend on luck--some waited, some didn't. On the way home we lucked out and caught a very full train (RER C) at 7:25 pm from Versailles Rive Gauche to St. Michel-Notre Dame. We did see the 171 bus but decided to risk the RER, which worked out. So, it all worked out very well.

1 train out of 2 wouldn't really bother me going to Versailles, as they have trains about every 15 minutes or so. They are having work on that line, anyway, so the number of trains is reduced aside from any strikes.

SNCF manages some of the RER lines, like the one that goes to CDG past Gare du Nord, for example. SNCF Transilien has a special website just for interruptions/delays

Glad everything worked out for you. Thanks for reporting back.

I really don't think we needed you to give a link to a website for a private driver.
