Train stops Porto to Lisbon
I was wondering about getting on and off the Alfa train from Porto to Lisbon. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to get off in any of the towns, look around and then get back on?

Not sure - Coimbra B is the main station -I suggest you search Portugeuse Railways site for that info and www.seat61.com.

How long would you be in Lisbon -not stopping will only save a few hours and lose the chance to see one of Portugal's most celebrated sights -the university square and historic library especially as well as a neat old hill town:

Indeed Coimbra could be a neat overnight stop:

@PalenQ: I only have 4 nights in Lisbon, so 3 full days. As this is my first trip to Portugal, 3 full days in Lisbon seems to be the bare minimum. I've done some preliminary research and other than booking a day tour of both Coimbra and Fatima from Porto (and then leaving the tour after the second city to make my way to Lisbon on my own), it seems trying to see both Coimbra and Fatima via train/bus in the same day while still arriving in Lisbon that night leaves really only 2-3 actual hours for each city. It's feeling like I'll need to pick one. While Coimbra's university area certainly sounds interesting, I'm leaning towards stopping only in Fatima at this stage.
