Train Stations in London...
Hi,
I will be flying into London and taking the train to Edinburgh. I am wondering what is the best train station to go to Edinburgh from London. Kings Cross, Victoria, or Euston? That way I can plan my hotel reservations around when I return to London. Thanks for the help! Devon |
I'm pretty the only station you can get to Edinburgh from is Kings Cross. (if I'm wrong someone will say so, but everytime I've been in Kings Cross I've seen this is where trains to Edinburgh depart and come in from).

I meant to say I'm pretty sure ... can't seem to type today.

Euston provides overnight service London-Edinburgh; otherwise, service is from Kings Cross.

As the others said - Kings Cross is the main station for Edinburgh. But I'd never stay near Kings Cross simply because I was using the train. It is not the best area in central London.
It is VERY easy to get anywhere in London from Kings Cross by tube, bus, or cabs. So pick a nice place to stay and don't worry too much about being close to the station. |
lori: But you ARE pretty.
janis: is it possible you don't live here any more? Because Kings Cross is certainly not at all easy to get to or from by bus or cab right now. The area immediately around Kings Cross is indeed the one bit of central London that's seriously unpleasant, with some prostitution and drug dealing.Though, speaking as a long-time resident of the area, I've never encountered any kind of physical threat. But right now, and for the next couple of years, road traffic in the area is completely impossible because of construction works as part of the Channel Tunnel Link. The building works seem to have eased the vice out of the area. But they make access to the tube station with luggage a real pain, and seriously slow buses. OTOH, the hotels in the area are now better value. And the walks from KX to most of tourist London are surprisingly interesting. |
flanneruk - true, the construction is a mess. I was last there in December and the walk to The British Library was interesting :-) And that was before the big building push started. For a Londoner driving in the area it is a real nightmare. But cabs still serve Kings X. So for a traveler, it is still easy to catch a taxi. But the journey will just take longer while the cab navigates through the diversions. Still a better option than staying near the station IMHO.
