train station help needed
 

I have about 8 or 9 hours to kill in Vienna. I will be arriving by train and leaving by train and am wondering about the lockers in train stations. I was thinking I could put my suitcase in there and do a mad dash around Vienna. Are they easy to find and use? Are they safe to leave my suitcase(nothing really of value but dirty clothes)? Are they big enough to fit my suitcase(possibly a backpack)? Thanks to those who know and respond

Do you know which train station in Vienna you'll be arriving at (and if that's the same one you'll be leaving from)?

We used the lockers at the station (don't recall the name of the station) where we departed Vienna for Prague. I think it was the station on the south side of the city, near the art museum that was, I think, a summer palace.

The lockers were easy to find and very modern and safe with several sizes to select from.

I stashed my small bag in a locker at Westbahnhof last year for €2.

All four main train stations in Vienna have lockers available on a 24-hour basis, costing 3€ ($3.60) for 24 hours. It's also possible to store luggage at these terminals daily from 4am to midnight (1:15am at the Westbahnhof) at a cost of 2.50€ ($3).

Sudbahnhof train station is near the Belvedere Palace/Museum, which I highly recommend. They have a fabulous Klimt collection, which would more than justify a trip to Vienna on its own.

Mary Fran gives good advice. The Klimt collection is THE highlight of a visit to Vienna, IMO. With that much time on your hands , you should be able to see a few things. By all means, lock your luggage and get out and see something.

Another recommendation: Get a Venice Card, which will give you free access to public transit, and use Tram #1, Tram #2, and Tram D as if they were hop-on-hop-off trams. They'll give you a great, quick tour of the Ring, I loved the lovely polished-wood seats on many of the trams.

My faves in Vienna: Belvedere Palace Museum and Karlskirche church.
