Train station at Munich airport

I am trying to determine whether my daughter can get a train from Salzburg to Munich on Jan. 2 that will arrive in time for her to board a 10:30 a.m. flight out of Munich. I can't seem to get the Bahn.de site to accept munich airport as a desination. I was just about certain that there is a train station there. what am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Use destination "Munchen Flughafen", and it'll let you search.

From Salzburg, it's a direct train to Munich East, and then the S-bahn S8 to the airport. Takes about 2.5 hours total.

Earliest train leaves Salzburg 4:27am and arrives Munich Airport 6:49. Two other trains leaving Salzburg 5:15 or 5:47 can also get her to MUC in time with 2+ hours to spare.

rkkwan, thanks so much. looks like this is infinitely doable provided the travelers are willing to arise early.

The Munich East station is a good place to change to the S-Bahn. The DB trains themselves don't actually go to the airport, but the S-Bahn makes a timed interface and, with a few stops, goes to the airport.

Your daughter will want S8. If you will check the Deutsche Bahn website closer to the actual date, you can identify the exact Gleis. Right now, the train from Salzburg comes in on Gleis 6 and the S-bahn train leaves on Gleis 5.

Should be convenient. That track interface is fairly stable, and I don't expect any changes. But, a few key strokes in December will show the current information on departure times and track numbers.

I used the German version of the DB web scheduler, and put in Munich Airport, and got the information. I am puzzled as to why you did not get the time tables you were seeking.

That site is flexible and usually highly reliable. I use it a lot for train schedules most anywhere in Western Europe. I find the Austrian one to be a little better for Romania and Hungary.
But the two are good sites to have handy. So is the Swiss site.

Thanks Bob. I put in Munich Airport and it came back no info, and when I just put in Munich, it, of course, came back Munich Hbf. Anyway, now I know what to do thanks to your help and that of the other respondent. appreciate it.

If it were me and my daughter i'd have her go to the Munich airport leisurely the night before and stay in a hotel there. Train strikes can always pop up or some unforseen delay on the train line, etc. Non-refundable, non-changeable ticket - risking a lot - not a great chance of happening but does happen. German rail unions are currently rumbling about striking i believe.

If she decides to arrive in Munich the night before, try Priceline for a Munich airport hotel. It's a good location for using PL. Check out the info at www.biddingfortravel.com prior to bidding.

I tried Munich Airport again on the Deutsche Bahn web site, and again I got a response. It worked in the German version and the English version.

Are you using this web site?
http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/d

If you are using something else, then it might be a problem.

Also, if you are using Rail Europe, I know it will be a problem.
