I need to travel by train from Rome to Geneva in July of this year. I need help with the following questions:

1) What is the name of the train that runs this route?
2) Is there more than one train companies operating this route?
3) Is there a non stop service?
4) What station would it depart from in Rome?
5) Is this train safe?
6) What is the difference between 1st and 2nd class.

Check with the following site. That's Swiss one but probably easier than trenitalia to use and reliable. Well it won't say if the train is safe though. I know at least there is one direct night train between Rome and Geneva.

1. There's no named train
2. They're mostly combinations of Italian and Swiss Railways, though some MIGHT be all-Italian. Go to www.bahn.de for details
3. Why do you care? Virtually no trains from anywhere to anywhere are non-stop, and why would anyone want one? The point is: there's no direct train anyway. You need to change at Milan, as the site referenced will tell you
4. Termini
5. All trains have infinitely lower fatality rates than any other form of transport known to man. Why do you imagine this one is any different?
6. First class costs more.

Unless you are absolutely determined to take the train, you should just fly on EasyJet. Nonstop flights on that route in July currently go for approx. EUR 45 all in one way.

hmmm - I thought there was a night train - in fact I thought I took this night train about 5 years ago but today I am not finding it in the bahn website. I think we were in a 2 person sleeper compartment (1st class) - there were also cabins with maybe 3 and 6 beds. It would not be non-stop and we felt safe. Maybe this train is no longer running.

The difference between first and second is small -- similar to the difference between Business class and first. First class seats are three across and second are four across. First class will always have much fewer people and you might get a little extra service. Personally I don't think the price difference is worth it.

There used to be a night train from Roma to Genève, but it doesn't run any more. I used it two years ago. It wasn't non-stop, but it was a through train from Roma to Genève, with no need to change trains.

Ok first they discontinued Geneva - Venice night train 2 years ago, and now Geneva - Roma ....

Thanks for the help. So it's down to two options: change trains in Milan or take Easy Jet. Based on the prices it will be hard to beat Easy Jet. They fly out of another airport in Rome. Does Metro or Buses go there? How long of a ride is it?

There are buses from Termini -- in the range of 30 to 45 minutes.

The EasyJet flight to Geneva actually departs at 20:55 from Rome <b>Fiumicino</b>, the main Rome airport with train service every 30 min. from Termini. The train ride takes about 30 mins, schedules at www.trenitalia.com , departure station is Roma Termini, arrival station is Fiumicino Aeroporto. You should be fine if you take the 18:52 train from Termini, arriving at Fiumicino at 19:23.

P.S. book ASAP to take advantage of the current low fares for July, they will most certainly go up as the flight fills!

There's a shuttle bus (partner of EasyJet) to both Rome airports from either Termini or Piazza Cavour (near the Vatican by Castel Sant'Angelo). 8€ to FCO and 6€ to CIA.
