Train Service and Recent Flooding
Has there been any interruption in train service between Frankfort and Milan due to recent flooding in Swiss Alps? Thanks.
|
bjm,
Yes. But the disruptions are just about over now except for a few routes to a few towns. Which route will you take -- and when are you going? s |
Thanks for your quick reply. I actually was asking for a friend and will get more info from her and then get back to you. Thanks again.
I couldn't find this thread when I got back on so I wish I could remove a second message that I posted with the same question, but can't figure out how. Guess I'm stuck with having it posted twice. Thanks for your answer. |
Swandav2000,
The routes she is interested in are Frankfurt/Mannheim/Zurich/Chiasso/Milan or Frankfurt/Munich/Verona/Milan. Do you have information that would help decide between train vs. air from Frankfort to Milan? |
bjm - You can't remove a thread but you can find all your previous theads by clicking on your own screen name. Sometimes you have to click your name more than once in the left hand column.

Hi again bjm,
I checked at the Swiss train website (www.rail.ch), and they show routes via Basel or Stuttgart & Zurich. I would go via Zurich to avoid the flooding around Luzern (even though it'll probably be ok). The route is very long, 7h55 or 8h45 with one or two changes. There is a night train, leaving Frankfurt at 22.47 and arriving Milan at 07.45 -- that may be a good option. I checked www.whichbudget.com for a discount airline between these routes. I couldn't find any from Frankfurt am Main into Milan, but did find one into Rome. There is one airline flying from Frankfurt Hahn into Milan's Orio al Serio (NO idea where that is!). Good luck! s |
The route Frankfurt - Munich - Innsbruck - Bolzano - Milan is quite scenic. It's open, not affected by floods.
