Train schedules from one country to another?
 

This has probably been asked before... but, what is a good site for finding out about train travel between countries? I may need to get from Frankfurt to Rome, depending upon final plans for spring break. I've looked at German train sites, Swiss train sites, and Italy train sites. I am having a hard time getting the info I need.

For fares, www.railsaver.com will probably give reliable answers, but not detailed timetables. If planning your trip depends on it, a Thomas Cook european timetable is the one foolproof source I know. You can but them from Forsyth among other places or your local library might have one.

It is extremely accurate, complete, and very easy to use. Unfortunately you can't get prices on much of it (other than German trips), but it is perfect for schedules. You can even select which trip you want more detail on and get a list of every stop they make. Just be aware that like most sites, you generally need to enter the city name in its "native" form -- Venezia, not Venice.

Rex has a point about sample fares between cities, but be aware those are only guidelines and usually much higher than reality.

I have found this link to the English language site of the German National Railway to be most useful for schedules. It shows the Frankfurt/Rome connection and will permit you to reserve tickets on line.

The problem with that last link to RailEurope is that their schedules are very, very incomplete.
