Train Schedule from Rome to Perugia Question
 

I'm somewhat confused when reading the Trenitalia schedule for April 30, 2008 at 9:38 a.m. from Rome to Perugia.

This is what Trenitalia has posted: On a screen with the schedule listing there is a 9:38 a.m. Eurostar departing from Roma Terminia (but in red it shows Roma Tibertina).

I clicked on the Details link and Roma Tibertina is no longer listed -just Roma Termini, which arrives at 11:09 a.m. into Foligno. Then, a 12:23 p.m. train departs Foligno, arriving Perugia at 1:00 p.m.

My confusion is with the two Rome departing train stations initially listed.

If, in fact, we really do have to depart from Tiburtina to get to Perugia, what is the best way to get there from Rome's Fiumicino Airport?



This sounds so long-winded, I hope I was clear enough.

Why don't you rerun the schedule with Rome Tiburtina in the departure box and see what comes up. I've never quite figured out what those stations highlighted in red mean - stops there, or not?

I've just looked on www.bahn.de. The train (ES9324) leaves Roma Termini at 0938, stops at Roma Tiburtina from 0944 to 0945 then continues, stopping at Terni and Spoleto, to arrive in Foligno at 1109.
If you join the train at Roma Termini, you have one hour and 31 minutes till you get to Foligno where you change for Perugia.

So, we will take the Leonardo Express from Fiumicino Aeroporto to Roma Termini. The ES9324 will make a stop at Tibertina Stazione, and then continue on to Perugia.

Or you could take the local train from airport right to Tiburtina and join the train there without going thru hectic Termini stationa at all

But the first class only Leonardo Express to Termini takes only 20 mins or so

the slow stopping 2nd class only commuter train airport to Tiburtina takes about twice as long

but also i think is about 10 euros or so cheaper per person.

Thanks for the additional info. If I am correct, the Tibertina station has levels as opposed to the flat singular level at Roma Termini. That's an additional consideration for dragging our luggage, although we are physically fit. The time issue is a huge negative for us going to Tibertina.

The ticket cost, in our case, doesn't matter, and we do want first class seats on the Eurostar.

I do, however, appreciate your input.

Yes at Tiburtina unless you happen to come in on adjoining platforms you would have to go up and down stairs to use the underground passageways between tracks.

And the 2nd class train can become rather crowded and perhaps not as convenient for the dedicated airport train.
