Train(s) from Lucerne to Barcelona?
Prior to going on a cruise round the Mediterranean, the DH and I will be visiting relatives in Germany, and then have 9 days to spend somewhere. I really want to make Lucerne our base, and we'll probably spend our time there, but I need ideas re: how to get from there to Barcelona.
On a previous trip we took the overnight Thalys from Barcelona to Paris, so I'm a little familiar with how that works. But is there something similar that connects (sort of) Lucerne to Barcelona?

Trip reports vary from excruciatingly detailed to almost meaninglessly sketchy, but most fall in between, and many provide useful information and/or vicarious travel entertainment. On Fodor's Travel forums, they are given a special tag so people can easily find them.

To go straight thru yes fly - there is no overnight train on that route - but if you want to break your journey about half way - stop in the Avignon area - heart of tourist Provence with lots to do in a compact area - then it's about 5 hours via TGV from there to Barcelona.
