train reservation costs
hello....
i am planning to take the night train from Paris Bercy to Roma Termini in late May. I shall be carrying a Eurail Adult Saver Pass (I am travelling 11 times in Europe, so I thought the pass will pay for itself - will it actually? [I am visiting Heidelberg, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Budapest, Venice, Rome, Paris, Luxembourg, Brussels, Amsterdam and Berlin, and finally boarding the return flight back home from Frankfurt])... my second question relates to reservation costs on night trains... specifically on the paris-roma segment, how much will i have to pay for reserving a seat? whats the average reservation fee like on night trains in europe? looking forward to your help..... thanks..... RC. |
justto clarify, I am paying 415 euros for the Eurail Adult Saver Pass.... am thinking of buying it through the eurail pass official site... ne better sites?

The fee for reserving a seat on a train in most European countries is small - 3.50 euros in Germany, for example. However, the night train from Paris to Roma has no ordinary seats. The cheapest accommodation is a bunk in a six-berth couchette compartment.

Hi T,
Before you buy a railpass, enter your itinerary at www.railsaver.com and click "only if it saves money". How many months do you have for this journey? ((I)) |
I hope you are not visiting the cities in the order listed!!
How many days for this caper? Sounds to me like a high percentage of your time will be spent riding a train. Seat reservations are fairly cheap. I recall paying €3 for 2 seat reservations last year. |
Reservations are petty change, but I think the issue is that if you want a night train and special sleeping arrangements, that is extra and not covered in the pass. It isn't exactly the reservation fee, but the cost for the sleeping arrangements.
