I have never seen my name on a train ticket, seat reservation, or bunk reservation. I have a fat envelope full of tickets and reservations from my last trip.

A train ticket is like a bus ticket, not a plane ticket.

Let me theorize why discounted tickets have names on them:

full fare tickets do not and can be used by anybody it seems

discounted tickets have names to prevent the buyer from re-selling them to someone who would otherwise pay a higher price.

that's the only reason i can think of.

thank you all for the information.....I just recieved my package from Eurorail direct this morning included was a travelers guide, map, and timetable which answered alot of questions for me. Leaving in 12 days and am looking forward to talking some more during my trip. Thanks again everyone.

The Eurail Timetable is good but a printed timetable can be outdated the day it's printed.

I suggest you go to the www.bahn.de German rail website and print out schedules for the exact trains you will be taking

especially trains you may want to or need to reserve in Europe - have all info printed out to take to the ticket window for full-proof communication and make it easier for clerk to just punch in train numbers to book

www.budgeteuropetravel.com has a link to the English schedule page of the bahn.de site and the give several tips on getting the most out of the bahn.de site - such as printing out the train's itinerary - stops en route, etc. which are not noted in Eurail timeable but are nice to chart your progress, etc.
