train questions...

hello fabulous travellers!
question: how long is the train ride from venice to rome...? what are typical fares for this travel and lastly... if i'll be travelling for three months, what's the best way to buy train tickets... buy them as i go... buy them in advance? i am unfamiliar with euro-rail.... can i pay a flat rate and travel unlimited?? any assistance is greatly appreciated. mille grazie,

The Rick Steves site has a PDF you can download that has lots of good info about trains and railpasses:

From Trenitalia.it site, direct Eurostar train takes 4 hours 32 minutes, Euro67.14 first class,44.93 second class.

After you read Rick Steves' railpass guide, visit www.railsaver.com for help on determining if point-to-point tickets might cost you less than a railpass for the routes and days you plan to travel.
