train problem
 

we are all booked for our italy vacation,however we cannot seem to complete train reservations. we have tried for two days on all sites. we are doing everything correctly with no replies. what is wrong with booking on line . i guess we will have to resort to aaa. help us out with all of your expertise.

You don't give us any hints - which web sites are you using? What sorts of problems are you having? When is the trip?

Go to www.trenitalia.com and click on English.
We have been traveling on Italian trains for 28 years. The easiest thing to do is when you arrive in a town is to make your next reservation at the train station. In fact you can make all of your reservations when you arrive. You can also do it at a travel agency in your arrival town.
If you are traveling during high season, it is best to go 1st class if available.2nd class fills up quickly.
They will also tell you if you need seat reservations.

we are leaving venice on sept 18 going to florence .On sept 21 we will be going to rome and on sept 23 we will be going to naples. i would like to book all train reservations from the u.s trainitalia does not respond to our request.we are
r on other sites as well. we understand some other folks are also finding the same problems. time is getting near. we put all of the info in and we cannot purchase tickets

Do you have your registration number from Trenitalia?

If so, at what point is it preventing you from buying tickets?

Does your CC company know that you are buying these tickets? Their computer might be preventing the transaction.

You do not need to worry about reservations for these journeys. Trains are frequent and the worst that could happen is that you have to catch a slower train or one that leaves a bit later than the one you wanted. You'll be able to book tickets at a railway station or a travel agency when you're in Italy.

and as train fares are so cheap in Italy vis-a-vis other European countries push come to shove you'd have to go first class but still at a rate lower than second class for similar journeys in other countries. I agree with Geoff - put angst to rest and buy all your tickets/reservations at the first train station you come across.

Easier yet, buy your train tickets at a travel agency in your first Italian city. Look for one that has a Trenitalia sticker in the window. No lines, English-spoken, and you can do it in the course of your sight-seeing.
