Train prices if trenitalia doesn't list

I am trying to get the price of a train ticket from Naples to Paestum - and trenitalia does not list it or allow me to purchase online.

Any suggestions?

Dona

I have two guide books for Italy and they both say you have to go to Salerno and then catch a train or bus to Paestum. Try entering Napoli to Salerno.

kybourbon-

Actually, this is what I found when I did a search here on Paestum:

Author: GAC

Message: If making a day trip from either Rome or Naples to Paestum, the train is definitively the way to go. From Naples, there are local trains (no reservations) direct (no changes) to Paestum. From Rome, you need to change trains at Naples Centrale.

If GAC says there are direct trains from Naples to Paestum, that's better than any guidebooks to me.

LaBellaDonna-
Try checking trenitalia at different times. Its website is rather moody. But for a local train, I don't think you can buy tickets online...

Well I guess my Frommer's and Let's Go Italy books are wrong.

If you check schedules on www.bahn.de, there are hourly trains from Napoli Centrale to Paestum, taking about an hour and a half. These are local trains with no seat reservations. If you buy a ticket at the station, you can use it on any train in the next two months, but you must stamp it in the yellow machine before boarding the train; after stamping, the ticket is valid six hours. Fares for local trains in Italy are cheap.

Hi Dona,

If you use the Italian language site at www.trenitalia.com and enter Napoli and Paestum, you will get the schedule.

The price of 6E seems about right.

I had the same problem - couldn't get prices. However, I was looking for a trip that was in May and I was looking in late Feb. I think in my case, they just hadn't posted the prices for May. When I used a similar date in April, however, I got the price (assuming it doesn't change!)
