Train: Paris to Zurich?

Is it possible to take a train from Paris (CDG Airport) to Zurich (ZRH Airport)? And if so, how long would it take?

Ready to roll.

E

Eamon,

Is it possible? Yes, in over 7 hours MINIMUM
Wise? Not really!

Have you checked the cheapest roundtrip airfare on Swiss? I'm sure it's not much more than TGV tickets.

You can find detailed timetable info at:
http://www.rail.ch/pv/index_e.htm

You can get train prices and book at:
www.sncf.com

P.S. forget about raileurope - useless for your trip.

Andre

Eamon,
As Andre said, it can be done, and his timing is about right. You will end up taking 4 trains: from CDG, you will take the RER line B to Gare du Nord. That takes about 35 minutes. Then take the train from that station to Basel. That takes about 4 hours. Change trains in Basel, and on to Zurich (another 2 hours). From the central station in Zurich, the train to the airport (runs about every 1/2 hour), another 20 minutes. That's 7 hours, not to mention the waiting time at Gare Du Nord and the station in Basel for the connecting trains.

Three or four trains, yes; one train no. The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. This shows the connections. I am afraid there are only three TGV on this route. They have buffet cars. On this route the whole trip is 7 ½ hours.

Charles de Gaulle about 0645 not Saturdays, cross-platform change of TER trains at Chatelet les Halles TGV station, Paris Lyon 0744 not Saturdays, Zurich 1346 to 1404, airport 1415.

Charles de Gaulle about 1545, cross-platform change of TER trains at Chatelet les Halles TGV station, Paris Lyon 1644, Zurich 2242 to 2247, airport 2300.

Charles de Gaulle about 1705 Thursday and Sunday, cross-platform change of TER trains at Chatelet les Halles TGV station, Paris Lyon 1804 Thursday and Sunday, Bern 2244 to 2321, buffet car train, Zurich 0040 to 0015, airport 0025.

Otherwise, on Shannon's route, not by TGV, taking 8 ½ hours. You can buy your tickets at European prices at the railways office in Charles de Gaulle airport.

Please write if I can help further.

Ben Haines
