If you plan to take any other train trips whilst there you might look into a rail pass. I would take the train with an overight stop in York. The Railway museum is right there and shouldn't be missed ! I love it. All that machinery in one place..Do see the cathedral also. Also. Don't forget to keep an eye out for that tiny stone building that is on the ticket cover.. Just past Berwick I believe. Take the train. You're on an adventure ! While you're being adventurous go first class and get your own seat...With reservation of course..
