train or ferry lecco to varenna?
 

thanks to suggestions, we are returning rental car to Lecco instead of Milan and going on to Varenna. Am planning to take train, which runs frequently. However, i understand that the ferry ride is particularly pretty. Could any of you Lake Como timetable experts advise if it's worth it to take the ferry? on the schedule looks like ONE direct/rapid ferry to Varenna at about 3 p.m. Don't seem to be others to Varenna, at least where i'm looking. Is it worth the hassle to take ferry from LEcco to Bellagio (with luggage) and then Bellagio to Varenna? or should be stick with train from Lecco to varenna and see the lake during our two days there. thanks!

According to the schedule, there are 4 weekday boats from Lecco to Bellagio.

The only service that goes to Varenna runs at 15.10 on Sundays and Holidays. So unless you fit in this very limited time limit, your options are to change a boat at Bellagio (may involve dock change depending on how you do the Bellagio-Varenna) or take a frequent train to Varenna.

Baggages on boat depends on how much you are carrying. Train is no less hassle than if you took a boat.

I think both ways are wash as far as the hassle is concerned.
