Train (or even a cablecar?) from Wengen to Murren?
I'm going to be staying in Wengen and we wanted to travel to Murren. Does anybody know how to use the trains or even the cablecar to travel to Murren? We won't have a car but even something like a cab would be fine.
Is this type of travel possible in a reasonably short amount of time? If it takes like 4 hours we'll probably just pass. But if we can find something under around 2 hours we're going to want to do this. We are going is to start a long hike from Murren so if we could incorporate the cablecars / additional hiking to Murren that would be really cool. |
I want to be clear that we will have no luggage. Only backpack(s) for our upcoming hike.
Also - scenic routes of travel are preferred. But ultimately we have a very long 2 day hike ahead of us so fast ways of travel (cabs?) are also nice to know about! |
Train down to Lauterbrunnen from Wengen. Walk to the right out of the train station at Lauterbrunnen, cross the street to the cable car. It doesn't take long at all. Beautiful scenery!

Thanks a lot!

Hi ABCDEFG,
Use the Swiss rail site to see the exact schedule and details for this trip. It's at www.rail.ch Just enter From Wengen To Muerren and the schedule will come up. Have fun! s |
There are 2 routes to Murren from Wengen. The first is to take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen station, then the train to Murren. Second is a bus down the valley and then the cable car direct to Murren. The first route much more scenic. When going to sbb.ch make sure you ask for the route via Gruntschalp. Takes about an hour + 15 from Wengen station.
