Train or car to Lucca

Can someone advise if driving to Lucca from Florence and parking, would be very difficult. Would it be best to take the train?

Thank you.

Florence is the place that is hard to find a parking place. We drove around close to an hour and a half in Florence looking for a parking place. Lucca was no problem, but we went on a Sunday from Montecatini Terme. This was early Sept 2005. Couldn't tell you about the train. We drove everywhere.

I would drive simply because there are some good stops you can make along the way. The little town of Montecatini Alto is great place to stop for lunch and has fantastic views. Also, when you get to Lucca, take a day trip to Bagni di Lucca. Ciao!

We took a train to Lucca. The train station is outside of the walled city. Very short walk into the city. No need for a car there.
