train or car to Annecy from Lyon

Hi,

Would you recommend taking the train to Annecy from Lyon or driving? I have 3 days in between meetings in Lyon, and want to spend the weekend in Annecy. Also, how long is the drive to Annecy from Lyon?

Thank you..

It takes about 1 and a half / two hours to drive from Lyon to Annecy. There are two possible routes - motorway all the way via Chambéry, or head north-east towards Bourg-en-Bresse and then Geneva, and then do the last section on the country road to Annecy. 1st option is quicker, second option is (slightly) more scenic.

Train takes about the same time (if I remember correctly), and the train ride is quite pretty.

I would think if you decide to spend a couple of days in Annecy you might be glad to have a car so that you can go off and explore the area around the lake, and go up into the Alps. It is beautiful around there.
