The 'restaurants' I liked in Nazarre were the outdoor grilling of fresh caught fish in alley ways and being sold as take out!

Should we skip sintra

My car rental company won’t allow me to pick up my car early and I’m afraid Sinatra might be too crowded when I get there. Is Cascais, Estoril a good alternative

You don’t say where you are renting your car. Assuming Lisbon? After some extensive research, we decided to take a train from Lisbon to Sintra, early. After 3 days there, we will cab to Estoril and rent a car there to continue our trip up the West Coast. Would be a shame to miss Sintra. Is taking the train an option for you? Cheap and easy. Can’t rent a car in Sintra, which is why we’re going to Estoril. Most travel books advise strongly against driving from Lisbon to Sintra. Loads of traffic and no place to park once you arrive.

Yes take train to Sintra - and maybe to Copenhagen Airport to rent car - on outskirts of town towards Sintra.

I'm told that Sintra only recently changed some of their central streets to pedestrian-only, and this is making it a challenge for some tourists with cars to get around. I was just there a few weeks ago (day trip by train from Lisbon), and the train is very easy. There are direct trains from Rossio Station in the central Baixa area of Lisbon.

Sintra was crowded when I was there especially at the entrance to the Pena Palace park. Long lines to buy tickets. Consider buying them online ahead of time - I wish I would have.
