Train Madrid-Toledo
 

I have been looking online for train information from Madrid to Toledo and can't find that there's a train running. Has this service been interrupted? Does anyone know how we get to Toledo if there's no train? Thanks.

Yes, there is a regional train from Madrid to Toledo.

These trains are shown on both www.bahn.de (which has schedules for most of Europe) and www.renfe.es (the Spanish Railways). Where else would anyone look?

the train to Toledo still runs, but there aren´t a lot of them (strange, given how near it´s Madrid from Toledo). Also, due to the high-speed train works, I think that you still have to change to a bus in a railway station before arriving into the city.

I have colleagues that come from Toledo, and they recommend to go by bus. Buses leave Madrid almost every half an hour from the Mendez Alvaro bus station.

One reason for the paucity of trains is the fact that the train line ends at Toledo-but in one of the fanciest train stations in Spain from an architectural point of view.
Both the train and bus station are outside the city walls so you will have to cab it to your hotel unless you are really into uphill walks.

How about taking the Bus? I took it last year and it was fast and confortable.

just out of curiosity...does anyone know how much a cab ride will be from Toledo to Madrid (train Station). We are trying to catch a train from Madrid to Reus that leaves at 7:45am on a Saturday morning. The train nor the bus will make it on time to catch my 7:45am departure.

Any thoughts?

I read somewhere that a cab from Madrid to Toledo was 65 Euros.

I did that trip a few years ago.... I walked into the city. It wasn't that bad but it was uphill. I like the walk from the perspective of "entering" the city on foot.

Don't forget to try the Toledan specialty, delicias de mazapán (marzipan).

Thanks for the info on the bus. The Renfe site -- which is indeed where I looked -- does not list any trains from Madrid to Toledo. I'm a little surprised at the snippiness of the replies saying that it does. In any case, I think we'll take the bus.

the Renfe site does show the Madrid-Toledo schedule ( just look here http://tinyurl.com/95ozp , I did a search both on the spanish and the english side ...).

Anyway, I still think that you will be better off with the bus, even if that means missing the wonderful Toledo train station. Trains still end at Algodor and you have to transfer there to a bus (same for the return trip, get a bus in Toledo to get to Algodor).

I picked up the following info from someone so apologies to the author for plagiarising:

"Bus to Toledo: The bus station in Madrid is called Estacion Sur de Autobuses at the Mendez Alvaro metro stop (Metro Line 6). To get there from Sol take Metro Line 1 to Pacifico then change to Metro Line 6. Buy your ticket at the window of the company T. Galiano-Continental (Ph: 915272961) 7,28 euros (return ticket). Make sure you get the direct connection, otherwise you will stop in every little village. The electronic board will show what gate buses to Toledo leave from. Buses to and from Toledo leave every 30 minutes from 6:30 to 22h. The trip takes an hour to Toledo. The bus station in Toledo is at the northeast corner of town. Closer to town than the train station. Take local bus 5 for Plaza Zocodover or 6 into Toledo center."

Thanks to you all. I did receive an explanation of why I couldn't find the Madrid-Toledo trains listed. Apparently they don't list trains for which you can't make a reservation. Or at least that's what I was told. Sounds like the bus is the best idea!
