Train info

What sites do I look at for train tickets from Manchester to London; Amsterdam to Bruge, Bruge to Luxembourg City, Bruge to Paris, and connecting Venice Rome and Florence?

You can find schedules, times, and stop and connection information for all of those here:

For pricing information you may need to go to the individual country sites. I'll let someone else list those if you can't find them by googling.

For timetables for most of Europe, go to www.bahn.de, the German national rail site.

To book tickets for Manchester to London, first go to www.nationalrail.co.uk and use the journey planner to get timetables and to see which rail company provides service on the route. While you can book tickets on that site, you may find a better price by booking on the rail company's site.

If you take InterCity trains from Amsterdam to Bruges (rather than a portion on THALYS which requires a reservation) or Bruges to Luxembourg City, just buy your ticket at the station.

For Bruges to Paris you can book at www.thalys.com.

For Venice, Rome, and Florence you can book at www.trenitalia.com.

What is the typical price for the train from Rome to Florence? I've been on the Trenitalia site but it doesn't list prices or allow me to purchase online.

The Trenitalia site DOES show prices and DOES allow online booking. If you're having trouble, it may be because you're trying to book too far in advance. Try entering a date between 60-90 days from today.

Online booking allows you to get discount tickets, if available. When you see the Fares pull-down menu, the default choice is "Intera." Scroll down and you may find cheaper options.

For example, on the EurostarItalia you can get a ticket for E29. On theEuroCity you can get a Sconto Smart ticket for E21.76. On the Espresso you can get a ticket for E17.31. On the InterCity you can get a Liberta di viaggiare ticket for E15.

One more thing: If entering a date 60-90 days from today doesn't work, then enter a date 30-60 days from now.

Thanks Tim - was looking at fall dates so that explains it - got the prices to display for summer so that gives me a ballpark!
